Fredrick
Oliver Berg formed the F.O.
Berg Company in Spokane in
1883. The company was originally
situated on Howard Street,
but was moved to the corner
of Trent and Division in 1910.
The company was moved two additional
times from 1940 to 1999 when
it was moved to its current
location at 16124 Euclid Avenue.
in the Spokane Industrial Park.
F.O. Berg is one of
the top 100 oldest, continuously-operating
business entities in the state of Washington.
The company has always been involved in the fabrication
of products from industrial fabrics
(such as canvas) and has long
served the agricultural, mining,
and forest industries as well
as the military. After Spokane's
1889 fire, F.O. Berg manufactured the tents that formed the tents that formed the Tent City, which
housed many of Spokane businesses
and residents during the rebuilding process.
The company's traditional products have been direct
sales of commercial and residential
awnings, wall tents, and a variety
of industrial, custom-manufactured
fabric items. During 1997, the
company developed and patented
a packaging product called a
coil cap. From 1997 to 2002,
the company has been awarded multiple
patents in both the packaging
and environmental areas. New
product development and the generation
of new ideas continue to be an
important part of the company
culture.
In 1965, Spokane Tent & Awning purchased the
F.O. Berg Company from Fredrick
Oliver Berg's family. Spokane
Tent & Awning dba the F.O Berg Co.
has passed through three separate
ownership parties. In 1992, Andy
Barrett purchased part of the
company, as did Craig Dolsby
in 1994. In 2000, Andy Barrett
and Craig Dolsby purchased all
outstanding shares of the corporation
to become its sole owners.
Berg Manufacturing has the unique position in that
it is both customer and supplier
to each of the other divisions
in the company. Berg Manufacturing's market is in the fabrication
of industrial fabric products. The customer base is government and
commercial alike. Berg Manufacturing fabricates tents, tarps, canopies,
bags, equipment covers, and safety curtains.
Berg Manufacturing offers AutoCAD design, computer
controlled fabric cutting, wedge
welding, hot air welding,
radio frequency welding, and
industrial sewing services.
